AudioFinder
Ok, this is a nerd posting. But I’m waiting for something like this such a long time. Just tried it a little bit and it feels very promising.
The basic idea: you get a file browser specialized in audio files, you can browse and catalog your sound libraries, preview samples, analyze or process them without really opening additional editor software. It has its own browser window, but you can dock the AudioFinder panel to the bottom of any OS X finder window as well:
Get the beta here for free and give it a try.
Again: via CDM.
Update: Somebody just pointed me to another, pretty similar approach - check out a preview movie of Snapper here. What I like in this movie is the way to cut audiofiles: you just mark a certain area in the waveform view and drag it into a folder, which automatically creates a new file of the area. It also docks to iTunes, and you can for example email certain areas of mp3 files without any effort. Another hot part: you can “send” selections made with Snapper in the Finder context directly to ProTools. Wondering if it will work with other apps as well in the future …
