Post-digital
I just stumbled across the article The Aesthetics of Failure: “Post-Digital” Tendencies in
Contemporary Computer Music by Kim Cascone (2002). I enjoyed reading it, it’s a convincing look at electronic music and it gives some great record recommendations as a starting point for people not so deeply involved in that genre yet. The link leads to a PDF - print it out and read it before you’re going to sleep tonight.
Hey, speaking of “post-digital”, there is also that article named Dawn of a Post-Digital Era In 2003? - also from 2002. Our world moves so fast: find at least one semi-antiquated paragraph in there! Hehe.
The first time I read about the “post-digital”-phenomenon was on John Maeda’s website. I liked his definition a lot and did not really do any further research on it, actually. Now, while reading a new post in his SIMPLICITY blog, I found the link to the “Postdigital“-page on Wikipedia, where I then found the two articles mentioned above …
Note to myself*: I have so many unread books around me at home. I should enjoy their linear nature more often instead of drifting and drifting here in this tricky hypertext world.
* I saw many pro-bloggers (sic!) doing this, so I think it’s time for me to try it out as well. But more importantly, it is already past seven and there’s no glass of wine next to me yet!
