Shaun Inman / Free icons

I just stumbled across two things I’d like to mention. I was not sure what to use as a headline, so I chose to go the reliable way – and yeah, you clicked!

I’m sure it’s not all new, but I saw the Shaun Inman redesign for the first time today. I wanna have a closer look on the concept, but it feels really fresh.

Update: As far as I understand, the The 9th Incarnation of ShaunInman.com is online since October 16th. Oh, I am late. But man, there’s just so much stuff to admire! Anyway, check it out if you haven’t seen it before. Make sure to read the Read Me, since it’s really important to know about the concept before judging on the look. In the comments, Shaun gives a search example which makes the visualization concept quite obvious.

On his website I found a link to Brand Spanking New, which I have seen before. But since December 6th, the guy behind BSN gives away a free icon set. I like many of these icons, but the best part is this:

Licence

A couple of people have been asking about licensing. The downloads on this site, unless otherwise stated, are covered by a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 licence. This means that you can download the icons and use them for whatever you like, including commercial work. You can even redistribute them, or modify them. All I ask is that you include a credit (”attribution”) and if possible a back link to my site.

If you do use them for some ludicrously over-priced commercial work and don’t know what to do with all that design budget, here’s a button you may consider clicking - any money will go to these guys.
