Built By Wendy.

I just discovered this fashion brand called “Built by Wendy”. It was love at first sight and people who know me will definitely know why. “Built by Wendy” is the clothing line by Chicago based designer Wendy Mullin. Her style is reflected in a personal identification with family and culture through her memories and interest in the following themes such like her hometown, music, books & movies, sports, animals & nature.
Wendy learned how to sew from her mom and grandma. Later she studied by day and sewed by night, selling her handmade clothes to record stores in different cities. In 1992 she moved to New York where she opened little boutiques in the back of record stores where she worked. After gaining some publicity due to the popularity of her guitar straps, she began wholesaling her clothing collection worldwide and finally opened her first retail store in Little Italy in 1998. Unfortunately there is no store available in europe (just NYC, Brooklyn and L.A.) but there is a nice onlineshop where you can purchase most of the stuff.
But the best things are the available sewing patterns on which you can sew your own “Built by Wendy” collection. Great idea and time for me to set up my PFAFF sewing machine again!

i just read that i am wrong about the guitar straps:
How did Built by Wendy start? Was it with her guitar straps?
No. Contrary to popular belief, Wendy did not start Built by Wendy from making guitar straps. She began making clothing first in 1991. Because she received a lot of press in the mid 90s for her custom guitar straps most people think this is how she started. Built by Wendy has always been a clothing line, first and foremost.
