Old Fashioned Modernists.
Last saturday, I dared to buy a magazin called Fantastic Man, edited and designed by Amsterdam based Designer Job van Benekom, who is also responsible for publications like Butt and Re-Magazin.
Anyway, the reason why this mag tracked my attention was an article about Dutch modernist Wim Crowel. Together with his Studio Total Design, he did a numerous amount of great work you could still find in practise around holland. I mainly admire his dogmatic approach (restricted himself to grid and helvetica) and yet his thougths about design, not to forget his grid-based font design Gridnik.
Due to the articel, the author and Crouwel went to visit the Rietveldschroeder House, wich is a design from architect and earlier modernist Gerrit Rietveld. There where some really nice photographs taken. The article itself is a nice personal portrait about him, and I love the idea of bringing those two design icons togehter.
