Basa

To keep my promise: here’s the first wine label design I’d like to share. My bottle of Basa is a 2003 white wine from Rueda, Spain and it tasted fantastic when i was drinking it last summer. I wanted to provide some more background information and links, but that’s not so easy with wine and grape growers and anyway, it seems to be sold out pretty much everywhere (will maybe be back in summer 2006?).

CorkstarApart from its very nice overall appearance, Basa has a lot of nice details. The very plain graphic style surprised me when I first saw it. It is a very “modern” approach, but in a good way. I normally prefer the more traditional, classic style because most “modern” wine label designs I’ve seen looked pretty cheesy - from typographical wrongdoings to wannabe popart and so on. Something that made me smile when i removed the foil from the bottleneck was the ornament on the cork you can see on the image on the left. This is how the protection foil (is there a special word for that?) looks like. It has a banknote-like pattern that is in a pretty similar way …
